Large truck accidents can cause injury and death in Georgia

Trucks can be an intimidating sight on the Georgia roads. This is true whether it is a semi-truck delivering goods and passing through the state, construction trucks, and dump trucks. For drivers in other vehicles large or small that are sharing the road with these large vehicles, it is imperative to maintain vigilance and be cautious. Even when people are keeping a close eye on these vehicles, there can still be a crash. Since trucks are so large, heavy and often traveling at significant speeds, there is a good possibility that there will be injuries and fatalities. Those who have been affected by truck accidents must know they have the right to seek compensation in a legal filing.

A head-on crash between a county bus and a garbage truck led to four people being hurt. The accident occurred in the morning when the southbound garbage truck went over the center line and into the lanes heading northbound. It crashed into the bus. The 45-year-old female driver of the bus was taken to the hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Only one passenger, a 58-year-old man, was on the bus. He too was taken to the hospital and his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The 49-year-old male driver of the garbage truck and his female passenger, 37, had minor injuries. They did not go to the hospital. According to the investigation, the truck driver was trying to avoid a vehicle that was in front of the garbage truck and that was the cause of the move into the opposite lane. The driver of the truck was cited for failing to maintain his lane.

There is a significant difference between truck accidents and crashes involving conventional vehicles. Because truckers are driving large and heavy vehicles, they are held to a higher standard for their licenses. With that responsibility comes the need to be aware of every situation and to be predictable. While accidents can happen at any time and cause injuries and death, a crash between larger vehicles can cause massive impacts, adding to the potential damage and injuries.

For those who were injured in truck accidents, it is imperative that they understand the possible long-term ramifications including medical costs, lost time on the job and more. A law firm that has experience in these crashes should be called for advice and guidance on how to pursue compensation in a lawsuit.
