Fighting For The Rights Of Georgia’s Injured For Decades

Road workers vulnerable to injuries in motor vehicle accidents

| May 31, 2019 | motor vehicle accidents

To maintain and build roads in Georgia, roadside construction crews will naturally be at risk. With the number of vehicles that are passing them, not all will be cautious and drive slowly. Some will ignore the road signs that workers are nearby and forget that it is important to be vigilant. When there is an accident between a vehicle and a road worker, there is a significant chance that the worker will be injured. Often, there can be a fatality. For those who were hurt or lost a loved one in these types of motor vehicle accidents, legal advice is critical to take the necessary steps for file a lawsuit.

A road worker who was taking part in a project to repave the road was hit by a vehicle and died. The accident occurred in the overnight hours at approximately 3:45 a.m. The worker, 28, was from Alabama. The crew was working on the road when a red Dodge Ram crashed into the worker. The driver stayed at the scene of the accident and it is not known whether charges will be filed. The driver is said to have switched lanes while passing emergency vehicles at the time of the accident. The worker died at the site of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Any auto accident can have terrible consequences, but when there is a crash between a vehicle and a person who is working on the road, catastrophic injuries and death is common. Even if the person survives the impact, there can be spinal cord injuries, brain trauma, paralysis and more. When there is a fatality, the family left behind will need to consider how they can move forward without their loved one’s personal and financial contributions. In these motor vehicle accidents, it is often necessary to think about a legal filing to recover sufficient compensation to move forward with funeral expenses, cover for medical costs, lost wages and more.

Even in accidents where a driver was not behaving recklessly, was not under the influence and was not distracted, if there are injuries or fatalities, there is still responsibility for what occurred. Drivers must pay attention to road workers to prevent injuries and death. In this accident, a worker who was helping to repave the road unfortunately died after he was hit by a vehicle. While the case is being investigated, his family must consider their alternatives and talk to a law firm experienced in helping people after fatal motor vehicle accidents.
